I’m not sure what’s going on but quite a few of us seem to have grown larger feet of late. Back in the “olden days” (back when men were men and so were women) I’d jump into a puddle and be the only one who got wet. Now, with my size 43 clodhoppers, every step I take seems to shake the ground of so many others. I’m not alone in this.
I don’t know if it’s to do with this New Millennium energy thing, if there’s something new in the air or that we’ve only just begun to notice something that’s always been there - whatever the reason, something’s changed. So many people I know, who’ve been strutting their stuff in a quiet and gentle way for quite a while (and making a small difference), have continued to strut their stuff in their same old way but now they’re making a huge difference.
As I write this, I recall several recent conversations I’ve had with Anna, my wife. We keep being surprised at the speed with which we manifest things, people and events in our lives now. It might be that we’ve become so incredibly enlightened (and I’m very modest about that!) but I know that it’s happening to so many other people we know. And, not only does the universe/God show up amazingly quickly, they turn up with unexpectedly perfect solutions. Before, life was OK. Now it’s become super-OK.
I know that there is an explanation - probably many explanations. I am sure that if we all put our minds together we can come up with numerous explanations. I know that it can probably be explained by numerology, by astrology, by channeled messages telling of energy shifts or dudes from other planets, by Jungian psychology, by political movements, by signs in the sand or by the number of dead possums now on the roads. I know that many people will want to be helpful and explain it all to us. Thanks, but I really don’t want to know. I don’t know about you but, for me, explanations ruin the magic. I feel what’s happening and I love the feeling. I also love the unknowing of it. That the magic’s here is enough. To explain and dissect it is to reduce it to un-magic, to facts, figures and concepts. Give me magic any day, thanks.
Recently a friend went to a conference on biodiversity and one of the speakers stood up and firstly announced that she was a scientist, with the obvious expectation that all would prostrate themselves and salivate at every word she uttered. This scientist then went on to say that biodiversity is very complicated, even for scientists, and, therefore, for the “average” person it was absolutely impossible to comprehend. I’m pretty “average” but I’m also pretty biodiverse - I am a father, son, brother, lover, friend, writer, publisher, lecturer, driver, painter, cat-feeder, dish-washer, cook, gardener, clown, listener, talker … the list goes. I’m also very simple to understand - just an ordinary human like you, your neighbour, the scientist, your brother’s aunt’s cousin by marriage and every other diverse human on this planet. We not only understand biodiversity, we are biodiversity.
Unless, perhaps … no, that’s not likely. Scientists are very clever and would fully understand themselves … wouldn’t they? I understand myself so I understand all other things. Some may say that if there is something you don’t understand then it is because you don’t understand yourself. Not likely with scientists, though, for they are very intelligent.
So why the lack of understanding?
One reason may be to do with the understanding of understanding - the word means to stand under, to simply observe, from beneath, in humility - not to overlook, look down on, to take over or to take apart.
Another reason could be to do with what part of the body is used for this understanding function. Intellectual people use their minds and this creates problems.
The head needs to understand, to remember, to dismember. It needs each little piece of the puzzle to fit into the existing paradigm. Any individual part of the whole that doesn’t fit is thrown away. It needs to have a logical sequence and hook for each dismembered part, so that it can be justified and explained to the self and the outer world. The whole is irrelevant, the parts are important and what the outer world thinks is paramount.
The heart, however, has no need of understanding. It simply perceives the whole, asks no questions and immediately feels the truth or otherwise, without needing to know why it’s right - or to explain why it’s right. No explanation, no justification, no proof, no examination, no dismembering - simply a feeling and a knowing about the wholeness. There is no acceptance or rejection for nothing is owned - there is simply a knowing and an allowing for things to be. Nothing has to “fit” or not fit - all can just be, unpossessed, and can be taken from or added to at any time.
So, from my heart I know what’s happening with these big feet and I can’t be bothered getting my head around it. I also know that if my head “got around it”, it would be by dissection and the whole would be lost.
Anyone else for the magic?
