Since the beginning of the year things have been like a rollercoaster ride. It seems like it has been one thing after another to deal with. Like a rollercoaster, as you slowly travel up before the big plunge, the anticipation builds and you wonder what is to come. You feel a little out of control but excited to experience the ride. While we have faith that everything is going to work out, it has still been a lot to handle. Once you are at the top of the rollercoaster there is a brief pause as you look down at how far you have traveled up and right before you plummet down and you briefly wonder, what the hell did I get myself into and what is coming now???!!! Life has been a very similar adventure as of late. The constant twists and turns and the stomach flopping upside down flips have been enough to have us laughing and shouting for mercy! It's all part of the ride, because the thing is, despite all the setbacks and reroutes life is an incredible journey.
While we are in the thick of things it is difficult to enjoy life. Life is so short and opportunities come and go so quickly. We have moments with the people we care about and then in a flash it is over. When we get so wrapped up in our problems we lose focus of the important things, having fun with the people we care about and enjoying life. Sometimes it’s easier said then done but when we shift the focus, even for just a second, we can capture the moment. I went through a period of very low energy, with a lot of fatigue. It was very frustrating trying to get anything accomplished, no less having some fun. I always manage to find a way to have a good time but I will tell you it has been hard to find and keep the balance.
The past few months have been about dealing with our issues. We've had to do some deep excavating, and it has been on a very physical level. Many of us have been dealing with our health, clearing up financial issues and making changes within relationship dynamics. This is a time of really getting our act together and setting our house in order. As we culminate in healing emotional wounds and clearing up negative thought patterns it turns to the earthly plane where we plant our feet, get our hands dirty by delving in, and taking notice of certain issues we may have let slide while we were dealing with things on other planes. This is a very important step on our path, since we must balance things on all levels in order to go to the next level of conscious awareness.
Life brings us so many opportunities for experiencing pleasure, we only need to capture the moment and give ourselves permission to play. We may get so caught up in dealing with stressors we shun the chance to do things we enjoy. Using our senses to really be present in the moment and connect with the experience helps us to come into our physical bodies and enjoy the earthly plane. I make time to go to the beach on the weekends with my friends. I use my sensual senses by digging my feet into the sand, feeling the breeze upon me, the sun beating down on my body, dipping into the salty and sometimes chilly water, while laughing and talking with my friends. We only have this moment and then it is only a memory to treasure.
There are many ways we can experience the sensual pleasures of life. While eating really enjoying and appreciating the meal. Refrain from allowing distractions to occur by talking on the phone or watching television, just really tasting the food and experiencing its textures. As you bath or shower, feel the warm water as it touches your body, enjoy the scent of the soap and shampoo. Being present in the moment brings you into your body where all life occurs. I love when my friend and I share the headphones for the ipod at the beach or in the car. We pick random songs and groove out to the tune that is playing, singing and dancing away. It instantly takes you back to the memory, feeling and experience of the moment past and present. I become so happy and connected listening to music any chance I get!
When you are with someone you care about really be with them...capture the moment. Hold the space for someone by really seeing the person for who they really are. Listen to what someone is saying (and what they are not saying), because so much is said in the silent moments. Many of us are having so much anxiety right now; we desperately need the support of each other. We need the human touch, by reaching out and giving a hug, or a gentle touch to someone can be so meaningful. By picking up the phone (email or text) and letting someone know that you really care and love them can be extremely powerful. Of course sharing laughter is the best way to lighten the load and remind us what life is really about.
The beauty of the human experience is that we have the ability to deeply see into another's soul. We are the witness for each other. We are the memory keeper's during this experience called life. We create, share and experience as we go along. We have the ability to hold the space for each other as we go through our challenges and upheavals. We can take care of each other when we need the support. Life doesn't have to be so hard and lonely, we are all one.
My best friend from high school and I were having dinner together last night. I was telling her about how a boy I had a major crush on in high school contacted me. I was so surprised that she held a memory that I no longer had of a time when we went to see him! I was able to capture a glimpse and glimmer of the memory as she told me the details that were completely buried for me. I couldn't believe that I forget so many fun moments from my life! I felt very sad because I so wish that I could capture each and every memory of my life and not forget a thing (okay at least the good things!!!)
I love to sit with friends or family and reminisce over things that have happened over the years. Each person holds vivid memories of things; sometimes each person holds different pieces. In this way we are the memory keeper's and hold the space for each other. Life goes so fast. If we are not present in our life we will let so many things slip through the cracks. We want to live each moment to the fullest because once it's over it's over. I want my life to be rich with experience and full of love with the people I care for.
While we are experiencing this rollercoaster called life, all sweaty palmed, anxious, arms wrapped around the person sitting next to us, screaming at the top of our lungs, we need to remember that it is the ride of our life and we better make every moment count!
Prayer - Dear God,
Show me how to stay present in the moment. Life goes so quickly and I want to enjoy and appreciate every moment of it.
I honor the people in my life and wish to be there to hold the space for them as they go through their challenges. I wish to see others for who they really. I honor each one of us for the sacred beings we are.
I treasure this gift of life. I am grateful for all those I care about and the experiences I've had.
Remind me to laugh often, play every chance I can get, express love, and capture all the sensual pleasures life has to offer me.
I am grateful to be here!
And so it is.
