For those who are old enough if we cast our minds back to 1984/1985, we will recall that the entertainment fraternity particularly singers, musicians put together a series of events to raise awareness and money to help the less fortunate of the African continent. Michael Burke of the BBC beamed into our homes of the starving in Ethiopia which was in his own words was of ‘biblical proportions’. All the great recording artists from that era contributed in some way or another from Michael Jackson, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Sting, George Michael the roll call was endless and inundated with the A list. Incredible sums of money were raised. To the vast majority in the West it mattered no iota these people were of a different race or religion, people gave generously and literally the money poured in. A generation on whilst some excellent work is continuing, the problems Africa seem insurmountable and we in the West have got ‘bogged’ down with issues of our own with the financial meltdown and war on many fronts against international terrorism.
I ask the Universe from someone who witnessed the media images and like millions round the World contributed to the charities why is the world no better a generation on? The generation of World War II suffered immeasurably to fight Fascism and Imperialism but still there are huge abuses of peoples by state government and civilians caught up between warring factions.
We are the World, we became our brothers keeper. Universe please tell us what we are still doing wrong, Love, Truth and Light was in abundance in practical terms when it came for the West to help the less fortunate, I and millions are at a loss at what else we could have done?
