I have often heard people describe their visions, sightings or 'channelled' writings and thought how totally convinced these people were of what they had seen and written etc being of an extraneous source i.e spirit vision or writing, without them ever giving any consideration to the fact it could well be just an overactive imagination, it may be genuine of course. So when dealing with things of a 'paranormal' nature you have to be realistic. Take everything with a pinch of salt, examine all possibilities and when you have exhausted all those and there is no rational explanation then and only then think it unexplained!
